Normally, most phones ring 6 times which is about 30 seconds of ringing. However, the number of times a phone rings is dependent on the mobile carrier sometimes.
Some mobile carriers allow users to customize how many times their phone should ring before the call is directed to voicemail or ended.
How Many Times Does a Phone Ring Before Going to Voicemail
We already know the number of times a phone rings which is 6 times (30 seconds). However, the number of times it rings is dependent on factors like the mobile carrier or the user’s choice.
For a call to go to voicemail, different factors can play a role. It could be that do not disturb has been turned on, the number has been blocked, bad network amongst others.
If any of these are the reasons then the phone will not ring at all or just for about 2 – 3 times.
However, if the owner of the phone being called is unavailable or does not want to answer the call, it should ring the normal amount of times i.e 5 – 6 times(30 seconds).
Will a Phone Ring if it is Off
A phone that is off will not ring at all. The call will only be directed to voicemail If the person being called has set Voicemail service. A ring or two beeping sounds may be heard.
This does not mean that the phone rang. Some carriers also leave automated voice messages to be delivered to the caller anytime the phone being called is off. The most important thing to know is that a phone that is off will not ring.
Will a Phone Ring if Number Has Been Blocked
Assuming you have been blocked, the phone you are calling would not ring and you won’t hear any ring. This is because the call would not go through. The call would be directed straight to voicemail.
You may never be so sure if it is a network issue, the phone has been turned off or you have been blocked indeed.
How many times does an iPhone ring – How to change the ringing time on iPhone

- You should receive the message: Setting Activation Succeeded. Press Dismiss and next time you receive a call it will ring for the new amount of time before going to voicemail
Why Does My Phone Not Ring Out
If you are at the receiving end of a call and it seems as though your phone doesn’t ring at all, the problem may not be from your carrier or network. It could be that there are some settings or configurations on your phone preventing it from ringing.
We will now look at factors that cause your phone not to ring the normal amount of times or ring at all.
Check your ring volume settings
The first thing you would want to check is the volume of your phone. You may have mistakenly lowered the volume to a point that you wouldn’t be able to hear anything or silenced the phone. Almost all smartphones have their volume buttons at the side of the phone.
Press on the top volume button to increase the volume. Normally, this action will call for a volume slider to show up on the screen. Tap on the more or arrow button to select the volume you want to increase. The ring slider is what is used for phone calls. Slide it to the right to increase the volume.
Check and make sure do not disturb is disabled
When do not disturb is turned on the phone is in a complete silence mood. Open the control panel and tap on the do not disturb icon to disable it if it is already enabled else check out for the next possible cause.
Turn off airplane
When airplane mode is enabled, calls to the phone will not go through and will leave the impression that the phone is off or the caller’s been blocked. The airplane mode button is mostly found on the control panel. Open it and look to see if it has been enabled then disable it.
Restart your phone
Restarting your phone can help solve many issues including the problem of your phone not ringing out when every other option has been used.
You should only fall on this option as your last. Make sure to backup your important files before doing this. Simply go to your phone’s settings and go to reset and confirm factory reset.
With all things being equal, the number of times an android phone should ring is six which takes 30 seconds, and for an iPhone, 20 seconds. Anything other than this means that something is not right except for iPhones where the time can be changed. The phone may be unavailable or the call recipient is declining.
