Center Excel Worksheet Horizontally

Imagine wanting to print an Excel spreadsheet with just a few rows on it. You will realize that the spreadsheet is going to print on just one side of the paper and this is because your data is not horizontally centered.

What does horizontally centering your excel worksheet mean and is it even possible? 

To horizontally center your worksheet basically means ensuring that whichever data you present on the spreadsheet will be placed in the middle of whichever sheet it is printed on. This makes your printout look nice and professional especially in cases where only a small set of data is presented on the spreadsheet.

The answer to the latter is yes and you are going to learn how to center your Excel worksheet in this post. What this means is that all the content on your spreadsheet will be centered so as to have even spacing both on the left and the right.

This is very useful if you are going to print your worksheet. There are a number of ways by which a spreadsheet can be centered and you will learn about all  of them.

How to center worksheet horizontally in excel using the page setup option

In other to center your spreadsheet horizontally using the page setup option, follow steps below:

  • Select the area of the worksheet that you would like to print and for that matter want to center
  • Click on the Page layout tab
  • Look for the Page setup section on the ribbon
  • At the far right bottom of the page setup section, you will find the dialog box launcher tool icon (that small downward pointing arrow). Click on it
  • The page setup dialog box opens
  • Click on the Margins tab
  • At the lower part of this tab, you will find Center on page
  • Check the box beside Horizontally and click OK
  • Now when you go ahead to print it, you will realize that the portion that you are printing out is centered appropriately

How to center worksheet horizontally using custom margins

In order to center your spreadsheet horizontally using custom margins follow the steps below:

  • Select the area of the worksheet that you would like to print and for that matter want to center
  • Click on the Page layout tab
  • Look for the Page setup section on the ribbon
  • Under the Page setup section, click on Margins
  • The margins dropdown comes up
  • Go to the bottom of the dropdown and click on custom margins
  • This opens the page setup dialog box
  • Click on the Margins tab
  • At the lower part of this tab, you will find Center on page
  • Check the box beside Horizontally and click OK. Note that you can check Vertically too if you want the data to also be vertically centered.
  • Now when you go ahead to print it, you will realize that the portion that you are printing out is centered appropriately

How to center worksheet horizontally using page setup on print preview

Another easy way that you can use to horizontally center your worksheet in excel is by using the page setup on the print preview page. In order to achieve this, follow the steps below:

  • Once you are ready to print your worksheet, click on File and click on Print or use the keyboard shortcut CTRL+P
  • On the very bottom of the left pane of the print preview page, you will find a Page setup link (in green color)
  • Click on page setup
  • This opens the page setup dialog box
  • Click on the Margins tab
  • At the lower part of this tab, you will find Center on page
  • Check the box beside Horizontally and click OK. Note that you can check Vertically too if you want the data to also be vertically centered.
  • Now when you go ahead to print it, you will realize that the portion that you are printing out is centered appropriately
